Reviving a Dead Oak Tree: Vietnamese Artist Tia-Thuy Nguyen’s Exhibition in France.

In Vietnam, Tia-Thuy Nguyen is not only recognized as a fashion designer with her brand Thuy Design House but also as an artist.

The exhibition titled ‘Flower of Life’ was inspired by her life and the loss she experienced after the passing of her beloved father in 2022.

Tia-Thuy Nguyen mentioned that her father’s death compelled her to revisit the memories they shared, and she learned to cherish every moment in life.

“The loss led me to reflect more deeply on pain, the significance of death, and the process of rebirth. This also became the inspiration for me to create the artwork ‘Flower of Life’ and explore the possibilities of reuse and regeneration in life.”

“I believe that everything in this world has the capacity to change and evolve, just like how a dead tree can transform into a beautiful piece of art.”

With life as her inspiration, the artist declares that she never runs out of such inspiration.

Starting her journey in fine arts in 1999, Tia-Thuy Nguyen has over 20 years of experience in painting and 12 years of experience in fashion design.

The accompanying exhibition ‘Hoa Doi’ showcases an insightful installation art piece by Tia-Thuy Nguyen, which took place at Château La Coste in Aix Provence, France.

The artwork was created using the trunk of an 18-meter tall oak tree that had died on a road in France.

It took her two years to complete this masterpiece. The dead oak trunk was covered with stainless steel plates, while thousands of stainless steel leaves were hung on the branches, all of which were produced in Vietnam and transported to France.

The entire metal plating process took more than 3,000 man-hours and nearly one ton of welding rods.

The exhibition showcases more than 10 artworks spanning different genres and materials.

“What I am most proud of is my contribution to bringing international audiences closer to Vietnam’s fine arts and promoting the creativity of Vietnamese artists,” said Tia-Thuy Nguyen.

Prior to attending college, Tia-Thuy Nguyen was already recognized as a prodigy. Despite her newfound passion for art during that time, her paintings were selected for display by several galleries.

In the late 1990s, known as the golden age of Vietnamese fine arts, Tia-Thuy Nguyen gained extensive experience practicing and even selling artworks at Cafe Gallery, Gouman Gallery, the Hanoi Expo Center, and Impression Gallery in France.

2019 marked a significant milestone for the female artist, as her first artwork was exhibited at Château La Coste in France.

In 2022, Tia-Thuy Nguyen made another splash with her return to Château La Coste for an exhibition, showcasing her two artworks ‘Silver Room’ and ‘Floating in the Nothingness.’
